My mini review of HoudahSpot as seen on MacZOT.comMacZot is having their latest Blogzot for the Spotlight alternative "HoudahSpot". I gave HoudahSpot a quick spin and found that it has some interesting search alternatives absent from Spotlight, and a unique set of tabbed windows (Browser, Inspector, and Preview) you can switch between to view files. I especially like the Browser window, which allows you a quick view of any standard text or graphic file. Give it a try, as the demo version allows you 30 free search queries.

I was JUST thinking how Spotlight is THE advantage OS X has over Windows XP right now. It's invaluable and impossible to live without once you have it. It's almost like I can't even use Windows just because it lacks this feature. I can no longer go through files and menus.
It's interesting what different people consider indispensible about their Macs vs. Windows.
For me, Spotlight is an afterthought. I've always used the 'find' function in the finder, and Spotlight doesn't do much more for me than 'Find File" did.
However, the add on 'QuickSilver' is indispensible. It's great at launching apps, folders, and websites with a few taps of the keyboard.
For me, there are tons of other reasons why OSX is better than Windows.
